90s Fashion and Style Guide
Most of us believe that 90s fashion was strange and funny. It was not as bad as 80s but 90s was a transition era and we all feel effects of it in fashion. Most of us lived this era and it’s normal that we don’t want to see photos from 90s and we are laughing us. Today, I will tell you why we wore such bad and funny in 90s. Two big events hit the 90s fashion in its first years. One of them was youth’s protest on fashion. Youth of 80s taught that fashion was terrible in decade and they created their own fashion by the slogan “rejection of fashion”. It was such a period that after 80s standard fashion for all, people tried to be unique not with their dresses but their piercings and tattoos. Youth tried to wear everything with comfortable option and this popularized t-shirts, trainers and jeans.
90s first years carried lots of signs from 80s but all of them were starting to erase from social life. Neon colors, oversized sweaters and acid wash jackets were popular in first years in 90s but people left them in a short period. In the mid-90s, seeking a new fashion way was on the surface of water. Fashion companies tried retro, cowboy costumes, trenchcoats, floral hippy dresses and more. But it was such a big protest in youth that none of them became popular.
Big fashion companies were on a big crisis and they started to produce dresses that directly show the wealth and class of wearer. First Yves Saint-Laurent started this fashion and Armani followed it. Lots of women liked this way of fashion. Small fashion companies produced against this fashion with olive green dresses, short skirts and yellow denim shortalls. Youth liked it and started to follow this daily wear fashion.
In late 90s, music shaped the women fashion. Thong underwear became popular by R&B stars. Also miniskirts were popular in nightlife. Women choose comfortable yoga pants in daily life.
Men were really confused in first period of 90s. Every fashion company was releasing a different fashion but none of them became widely popular. Converse All Stars and Levi 501s again became fashion. Polo shirts and Freddy Mercury’s Aviator sunglasses were also popular in daily wear.
In the mid90s, men started to wear like they are always in a holiday. Aloha shirts were popular. Also there were sunny prints on all t-shirts. Leather jackets were looking some contrast on such t-shirts. In 90s end bootcut jeans was a sign of returning normal.
